I have a 14 inch laptop and for the size of this cooling pad it is only slightly shorter than my laptop which is not a big deal. Bought over 2 months ago, I'm still not tired of this little ingenuity. I was looking for a multi USB hub and settled on the Targus Notebook ChillHub because it had a hub and these fans. It works great as a hub, even just plugged into my laptop for use with inexpensive accessories like flash drives etc. When I need more USB power and/or want to use fans to cool my laptop (which is quiet and fine), I plug it into the power adapter.
