Works External Components

A bit pricey, although I think supply is pretty low these days if you want a big brand and not something made in China. Works as expected.

Pros
  • Top marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Modern

Works great: Optical drives

My new laptop doesn't have a CD drive and I backed up the information on a CD that I need on my new computer. This drive was plug and play. Did what I needed without any problems. I didn't try to write on it, I hope it will be just as easy.

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • Annoying

Excellent writer for my money

Small and fits in a laptop. Cable included, works great. The laptop has trouble detecting it from time to time and I have to restart the laptop for it to see it.

and easy to use - just plug and play

This drive works as intended and is easy to use - just plug and play. However, I have one major problem with it - the fact that both USB ports must be connected to your computer for it to work, and the cable is very short. Since my laptop doesn't have two USB ports side by side (one on the right, one on the left, and one on the back), I had to buy a USB extender to make this drive work for me. I suppose this won't be a problem for most people since most computers have two adjacent USB ports…

Pros
  • Enjoyable
Cons
  • Everything is fine

Big Bang for your Buck

Changes from 08/27/2014: I downgraded this disc to 4 stars. I have 2 of these. One of them lasted 31 days - Revain allowed me to return it even though it was a day over the 30 day limit. He just stopped reading CDs. Checked everything, cables, installation, connections etc (and since I have two it was easy to check what worked) and it was just "dead". Still, I think it's a good product for the price. The second drive has worked flawlessly so far. Next time I will add a square trade or some…

Perfection! in External Components

I was pleasantly surprised by this product! I was looking for a portable DVD drive for my MacBook Air and didn't know which one to choose. I used to borrow mine from my dad several times (he has a black Transcend one). The one I have is thinner than my dad's which I love because it's not as bulky! It's very light and looks great with my Macbook Air :) Many have mentioned that the drive only works if you connect both USB cables. Based on these reviews I wouldn't buy it but having borrowed from…

Great replacement for my broken floppy drive

My Mac and the floppy drive don't work at all. So I bought it to burn a DVD. It works great with my DVD Studio Pro software. I haven't had a single problem with it and probably recorded about 50 discs. It also allowed me to import music and watch DVDs. There is also a downside: it occupies 2 USB ports at the same time.

Pros
  • I like everything so far
Cons
  • A few minor things

Two USB ports are required for proper operation

The product comes with two USB ports, but my computer only has one. The purpose of the second connector is to provide additional power to the device. When a USB device is connected, it reads and writes files but does not play DVD movies.

Pros
  • Stable test results
Cons
  • Volume
