Old but good - Data Warehouse

Bought two of these. One was my primary hard drive for a year, the other was newer and had a defect. The seller promptly replaced it before the return even got to them. The exchange went very well. These are fast hard drives that are only surpassed by WD Black 6TB drives thanks to their updated design and data density. Right, that old 1 terabyte is fast. All mine were 2.5" rims with no heatsinks. Another seller sells the heatsinks separately for a decent price. At around $100 (price at the time

Pros
  • Best in class
Cons
  • Can't remember

I've used WD Velociraptors a lot in my computer builds. Like all Velociraptors, this is a quality product from Western Digital. Velociraptors are all 2.5" rims that commonly mount in 3.5" mounts. I bought enough Velociraptors to assume a carrier will be included as pictured. But a word of caution: this seller is selling a bare drive - it does not include a 3.5" bracket as shown in the picture. You only get the actual 2.5" drive. It's not a big deal because you can buy 2.5" to 3.5" media…

Pros
  • Pretty packaging
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

Old but unused - internal hard drives

As mentioned, it doesn't come with a heatsink insert/adapter. The drive was packaged in an anti-static bag imprinted with the Western Digital logo. Looks like this CD has been on the shelf for 5 years. According to the WD website, only 40 days of the original manufacturer's warranty are left. So buyers beware. For now it works as expected.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Expensive insurance

What you need to know before you buy from Data Storage

These drives are discontinued, refurbished and SMART diagnostic data has been purged for power-on time. I also removed the production date from the label. All that being said, these are well built rims and for the price they can serve you well indefinitely. If your intended use is for long-term reliability, you may consider purchasing a newer Western Digital product.

Pros
  • Rugged build
Cons
  • Functionality

I am an electrical engineer with 35 years of design experience. Developed many products including network devices with embedded Intel processors from Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge, Haswell and Broadwell. This equipment is used by Revain, Apple, Google and many other high-end companies. This unit also uses two 1TB WD1000CHTZ VelociRaptor hard drives. These drives are enterprise-class hard drives, which means they offer high performance and high reliability. Instead, mine is mounted on skids/drive…

Not compatible with Startech USB 3.0 adapter

I bought this drive to store BluRay image files so I can play them on multiple computers without optical disc players. I've tried using this drive with the Startech USB 3.0 adapter to no avail. At first I thought the drive was bad, but after testing it in an Orico powered USB 3.0 dock the drive works fine. Apparently the Startech adapter is not supplying enough power to spin up the hard drive. Spring. I just use the Orico dock to play the files. Otherwise, this drive performs fairly well with…

That works great. Size doesn't matter

Works great. Size doesn't matter, size only affects temperature, don't forget to bring an ice box. I run Battlefield 1 and next gen games on it with ultra graphics and recording, this drive is great for its mini size. It's the size of your palm.
