I HAD PLIERS! for bedding

Also like other reviews there were mites in the bag I received and my snakes were furious! I didn't know what was wrong with them and why they were so angry all the time. I was trying to deal with them and it was an instant sting so I happened to look in the water and saw it was full of VERY small black bugs! WTF! I finally processed the rest of the Reptibark package and my snakes with JurassiMite and they are fine now.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Some bugs

I would normally give a 5 star rating. I use this material on my Russian tortoise and it looks and works great! Not to mention that the price is 50% below what the pet stores are charging. But when I ordered last time, I found random things in my bag! One of them was a sharp piece of metal. Be sure to check to be sure! Still a great product!

DISCLAIMER!: Bedding

After extensive research I chose Reptibark for my large snakes as it retains moisture. Now they have splinters all over their bodies and I have bigger issues than moisture control. TERRIBLE! I should have just guessed based on the amount of shards I got by putting the stuff in their tanks. Not! I'll try coconut or walnut as wood shavings are amazing if you can find them. This material is dangerous for your pet.

Great for animals and plants

I don't even use this for animals, I use it for planting blueberry bushes. I convinced my roommate to buy it for her snake. Mainly to keep him from getting shards and we'll update this review as we line the cage. See, the material is very slick and doesn't look like it will split while eating or even stick to the prey. The absorbency of this material works great as I am currently using it to plant blueberries in a large trench filled with reptile bark. Holds water all day. Also works well with…

Great for turtles

I use this substrate for my 2 turtles (turtle and furrow). I have used forest soil substrate, beet and other coir substrates and this is by far my favorite. 1.) It smells nice and my turtles can easily walk or burrow in it. the turtles stay clean when I take them out of my terrarium (to clean the tank and put in a new substrate); I don't breathe dust and the room stays clean. That was the biggest problem I had with other pads, they are too dusty. 3.) That's a great price for a product. I had to

Great product (so far!)

I have bought both this Zoo Med ReptiBark and the Zoo Med Forest Floor bedding pack. ReptiBark are small pieces of bark. The Forest Pola was more like shredded wood, small pieces but full of chips and rough edges. Maybe it depends on what animal you're using it on, but I really didn't like the other one, especially when there's that other option. Looking at other reviews I haven't noticed any issues with the mites at all and as I said this is a different sharded version. The cost of ReptiBark…

SS Thank you! Best among reptiles and amphibians

Highly recommended. The price put me off at first. But the reptibark is washable, reusable and you can put it in the garden if you like; Takes a long time. I only switch occasionally. Best of all, it smells good! Reptibark makes my ball python the easiest pet in the house! (We have a dog, a cat and mice!). The bag is enough for at least 2-3 cage changes in a 40 gallon aquarium. Rocky also has a large plastic beehive that has a layer of peat moss in it. This mimics the rodent burrows it would…

Infested with ticks! DO NOT BUY!

I am absolutely upset with this purchase! I had high hopes that this would be a quality mulch for my iguana. At first everything was fine and I was happy, but after a while I noticed small red and black mites all over the tank! And my poor iguana was infested too, they are very difficult to get rid of and it was causing me a lot of stress along with my iguana! I even cooked the mulch before putting it in my tank and I still have mites, I don't know how they survived the cooking but it's very…
