Review on SunFounder 10.1 Inch Raspberry Pi Touch Screen with 1280X800P Resolution by Erik Campbell

Revainrating 1 out of 5

No documentation, no device protection, kinked board wires, spaghetti cables

WARNING! This page is dedicated to two completely different products! The vast majority of reviews refer to the LCD screen, NOT the touchscreen! This rating refers to the touchscreen. The product arrived without a documentation sticker. Without a single line of text on a product page, there would be no access to instructions, contact information, etc. SoC. Instead, you just get a bunch of dead ends that don't protect anything. This wouldn't be an issue if this screen could be mounted or placed on a stand, but it isn't. This device is designed to be hand-held and all you can do is place your hands on the boards. This means that all circuits, capacitors, etc. are covered in oil and dirt. The main display board arrived with bent capacitor wires. Unfortunately, they also appear to be poorly soldered, so use caution when adjusting and watch out for exposed wires when holding the unit. This shield must be plugged into an electrical outlet, not an external USB power source. Each picture is missing the power cord, but that's not for mobile use. Not only that, the proprietary power cord is ONLY 3 FEET LONG. This means you'll almost always need to plug this into an extension cord anyway (that's hovering or within 3ft of an outlet). So you have a device that comes with no mounting hardware, needs to be plugged into an outlet, and paired with a supported extension cord. For now, it's better if you get a touchscreen monitor. Touch input is transmitted over a VERY COLD open 4-pin connection. Not only does this limit your ability to use this with a device that isn't directly screen-mounted, but it also completely negates the presence of a touchscreen when it slows down and breaks. There's a reason none of the pictures show it with the wires connected. That's because it's MESS. The included cables are too long to look decent with the SoW attached, but too short to be rolled up or used with the SoW in a separate case. I know it's just aesthetic but it was a disappointment nonetheless.
