What is BitTorrent
BitTorrent Token (BTT) is the native token of BitTorrent Chain (BTTC), an EVM-compatible proof-of-stake network that connects TRON, Ethereum and BNB Chain. BTT pays gas fees on BTTC and is staked by validators and delegators; it also exists as a TRC-20 token on TRON.
Network and consensus
| Parameter | Details |
|---|---|
| Type | Proof-of-stake chain linked to TRON, Ethereum and BNB Chain through root contracts and a relay layer |
| Consensus | Proof of stake: validators stake BTT in contracts on TRON; the Delivery layer, built on Tendermint, posts checkpoints to the main chains |
| Block time | About 2 seconds |
| Smart contracts | Yes; EVM-compatible, supports Solidity |
| Chain ID | 199 (BitTorrent Chain Mainnet) |
Supply and issuance
| Parameter | Details |
|---|---|
| Total supply | 990,000,000,000,000 BTT after the 1:1,000 redenomination (originally 990 billion) |
| Initial distribution | Public sale 6%, private 2%, seed 9%, TRON airdrop 10.1%, BitTorrent airdrop 10%, team 19%, TRON Foundation 20%, ecosystem 19.9%, partners 4% |
| Staking rewards | 10% of network rewards go to validators submitting checkpoints, 90% to validators and delegators by stake |
What BTT is used for
- Pays gas fees for transfers and smart contract calls on BTTC.
- Staked by validators to take part in consensus; holders can delegate BTT to validators.
- Pays cross-chain operation fees and incentives.
Who develops and governs BitTorrent
- Allocation to TRON
- TRON Foundation received 20% of the supply; TRON users received a 10.1% airdrop
- Team
- 19% allocated to the team and the BitTorrent Foundation, released over 36 months
- Governance
- Validators stake BTT and bind an NFT identity; on-chain governance modules are on the roadmap
- Open source
- Code and docs published on GitHub (bttcprotocol)
History
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| 31 January 2019 | BTT token generation event and public sale; the first airdrop to TRON users follows the same day. |
| 1 December 2021 | The new BTT token contract is issued on TRON as part of the BTTC mainnet launch and 1:1,000 redenomination; old BTT becomes BTTOLD. |
| December 2021 | Team and TRON allocations finish their 36-month linear release. |
| June 2026 | Whitepaper version 2.1 is published. |
Security and audits
- SlowMist audited the BTT token contract on TRON on 5–6 December 2021 with a result of Passed; the audit notes the total token amount cannot be changed.
- BTTC blocks are aggregated into checkpoints whose Merkle roots are published periodically to the main chains.
- Withdrawals from BTTC to a main chain usually take 45 minutes to 3 hours.

BTT is the native gas token on BitTorrent Chain. On TRON it is a TRC-20 token; the Ethereum address is the one linked in the BTTC documentation. Staking is done with BTT on TRON.
Risks and caveats
- TRON-related parties received about 30% of the original supply (20% TRON Foundation, 10.1% TRON user airdrop).
- The inflation rate is adjusted dynamically from on-chain indicators rather than fixed in advance.
- New validators can join the active set only when an existing validator unbonds.

Questions and answers
What is BitTorrent (BTT)?
BTT is the native token of BitTorrent Chain, an EVM-compatible proof-of-stake network connected to TRON, Ethereum and BNB Chain. It pays gas fees and is used for staking.
What is the total supply of BTT?
990,000,000,000,000 BTT. The original 990 billion BTT were redenominated at 1:1,000 in December 2021, and the old token was renamed BTTOLD.
How does BitTorrent Chain reach consensus?
Validators stake BTT in contracts on TRON. A Tendermint-based Delivery layer validates blocks and posts checkpoints to the connected main chains.
Who received the initial BTT supply?
Under the whitepaper allocation, the TRON Foundation got 20%, the team and BitTorrent Foundation 19%, ecosystem development 19.9%, and sales and airdrops the rest.

How voting works
Votes are anonymous and carry no text. Each device has one vote per item; press the same button again to remove it. Cloudflare Turnstile checks that a person is voting. We keep a random device ID in a cookie and a salted hash of the IP address to limit abuse — no names, no accounts. Votes are visitors’ opinions, not investment advice.
