What is OCEAN
OCEAN is a non-custodial Bitcoin mining pool run by Bitcoin Ocean, LLC, a Wyoming company and subsidiary of Mummolin, Inc. Miners connect with only a Bitcoin address and are paid directly in the block's coinbase transaction under its TIDES reward system. Since 2024 miners can also build their own block templates with the DATUM protocol.
Coins, payout schemes and fees
| Coin | Payout scheme | Pool fee | Minimum payout |
|---|---|---|---|
| BTC | TIDES | 2% (1% when building own templates with DATUM) (as of 31 October 2026) | 0.01048576 BTC (1,048,576 sats) on-chain; lower via Lightning |
Payouts
| Parameter | Details |
|---|---|
| Pool fee | 2% of the block reward and transaction fees of each block found; 1% for miners who make their own blocks using DATUM. |
| Payout scheme explained | TIDES (Transparent Index of Distinct Extended Shares) splits each block reward over the most recent shares, so each share is paid on average about 8 times; miners can verify their share. |
| Payout schedule | Paid when the pool finds a block, directly in the coinbase (generation) transaction; coins are spendable after 100 blocks. |
| Lightning payouts | Optional Lightning payouts with BOLT12 offers allow payouts below the on-chain threshold. |
| Small balances | If a miner stops or changes address, the pool will try to pay balances from 0.00065536 BTC at its discretion. |
Connecting
| Parameter | Details |
|---|---|
| Server regions | Single endpoint mine.ocean.xyz:3334; server locations are not listed. |
| Account needed | No account: the username is a Bitcoin address (optionally address.workername), password "x". |
| Protocol | Stratum; DATUM lets miners build their own block templates instead of using the pool's. |
| Supported hardware | Bitcoin ASIC miners; addresses of type P2PKH, P2SH, Bech32 and Bech32m are accepted. |
Security and transparency
- Non-custodial: rewards are paid by the Bitcoin network in the coinbase transaction rather than held by the pool.
- TIDES payouts are designed to be auditable, so any dishonesty by the pool would be provable.
- OCEAN reports SOC 1 and SOC 2 Type 2 attestations.
Security incidents
No security incident is recorded in the sources checked on 31 October 2026 (the company’s own channels and incident databases): defillama.com/hacks, hacked.slowmist.io/search, rekt.news/leaderboard, ocean.xyz/blog
