Steem(it) has some drawbacks, but currently, there is nothing better on the market.

The community is positive, development is constant and it stood test of time.

Pros

Steem(it) is proven and battle harden platform for blogging that proved its concept for two years already. An average new user can expect to earn small rewards, ranging from 0.1-1.0 $ per post, which is a small amount, but still way better than 0.00 $ you can earn by posting on FB or your personal blog. There are several communities that can boost your awards if they find your post valuable (Curie, for example) and in that case, you can expect to earn between 10 and 50$. If you are an expert in STEM field, you can join steemSTEM or stemQ and provide yourself very measurable additional income. Probably the strongest community is Utopian if you believe in open-source software and if you have significant skills. Coin itself is very good, scalable, fast, no fees... And many dApps are starting to pop-up in Steem ecosystem.

Cons

New users could be discouraged at the beginning when they see how poor their earnings are in comparison to more experienced users. Voting power is very centralized in reality, and this is bad and good at the same time. UI is very rudimentary, based on Markdown and users need to learn how to edit posts.
