Review on Stellar by Jerry Siegel

Stellar (XLM)

Let's start with definition. Stellar positioning themselves as blockchain-based platform for instant payments all over the world. Founded in 2014 by Jed McCaleb (former Ripple co-founder, MtGox founder) as an improved version of Ripple (XRP). I won't go and decribe their fast transactions and ground-breaking technologies, you can read this in other reviews. What really interests me is why this project was created.

Stellar is basically Ripple but with some ground and "moral" improvements. Stellar offers more voting rights for their users. As someone could read "pays more respect to the blockchain cause". Actually this makes a really good stading point, like "XRP in not good, Stellar is better because we're more decentralized". Really catches your attention.

But my question is - is there really a difference? I know crypto space has a lot of precedents of dividing 1 project into 2 (ETH-ETC, BCH-BSV, NEM-XPX etc.) and almost everytime the reason for this is some dispute between co-founders. But I've never seen that the "second copy" delivers something more useful, although XLM has really great story, cause Ripple is truly centralized, and the intention of improving that really stands out and brings some good emotions to my mind. So my like goes to XLM, rather than XRP.

Pros
  • Offers more rights to the people, rather than XRP
  • Cool website
Cons
  • Hard to describe the XLM-XRP difference to a casual user
