Have been using it for almost a year now, several times a day with tap water, always leave standing water in it. yes it will rust the floor is made of stainless steel. All stainless steels will rust over time in a corrosive environment. Hard sponges will scratch the surface but will not remove rust (see image, don't do this). Fill to the minimum 16 ounce mark, add about 20-25g of Fruit-Fresh, cook and soak, rinse. the rust is gone. Image of a kettle after 11 months of use following the passivation cycle described above.
