Review on ⚡ Power-Up Safely with APC Surge Protector Power Strip: PH12U2W, 12 Outlets, USB Charging Ports, Flat Plug and 2160 Joules! by Maurice Harvey

Turned it on, ignited an internal spark, burst it, emitted smoke, and fried a $500 connected appliance.

I used it in my electronics closet where the main components of my network and home automation system are located. I wanted this model because the outlets are far enough apart that I can plug in any small transformers that power my electronic devices. Exhibition. When I flipped the switch to the "on" position, it sparked internally, made a loud popping noise, emitted smoke and nothing worked. It was unsettling. The green lights next to the switch went out. I quickly unplugged it and found that the $500 device attached to it was not working. I tried plugging it straight into the wall and didn't get a nada. I took it apart and found damage to the internal circuitry that I cannot repair. At the time I figured it wouldn't be too much of a problem because APC would cover it. Looking back, I was a naive sweet summer kid thinking about it. I read APC's "Hardware Protection Policy" and realized that: (a) I had to register the power strip with the card that came with the box within 10 days of purchase and (b) it was only due to damage of "transition processes" covers in the power line. As for (a), I didn't even open the box 10 days after receiving it because I was assembling components for a larger project, one of which was this one. Hit one. Regarding (b), there was no power line transient. My switch didn't work, nothing in my house was damaged. Instead, the problem was that the device was defective from the start. Second Strike. And to top it off, I don't have a return window to return it for a refund. Third blow. Determined that I had screwed it up, I decided to take it apart and photograph it so everyone else could see it in all its burnt glory. Needless to say I won't be buying it again.
