I received the router and immediately flashed it with DD-WRT to get the most out of it. DD-WRT is firmware that you install and that allows you to take advantage of advanced features such as Quality of Service (QOS). For example, with QOS you can tell the router to prioritize things so they don't slow down when there's a lot of activity. Playing an online game while your iPhone downloads the latest app? No problem. You can set it up to prioritize online games to ensure smooth gaming, while the app might take a few minutes longer to load, but who cares! To add these features you can go here: [.] or just search for DD-WRT. RT-H12. You need to check the bottom of the router to see what version you have. Very easy to find. After installing the firmware, I noticed that the default performance does not match the default text description. The power was set at 17 mW and the text said it should be 71. I had to power up to make sure my second floor was covered and I was afraid to jump to 71. Instead I increased it to 22nd and now I have no problems at the top. . Another issue was that when I turned on HTTPS just to connect to the router, I never got a response after that. I've tested this a few times, so for now I've just left HTTP as the default. Less secure, but you already need a key to even connect to your router, so it's already pretty secure, so it's not a big deal. I restart it every morning (very early) and it has been reliable. I can easily stream Netflix HD on my laptop (which I connect to my TV) in another room. I didn't notice any dropped frames or artifacts. If you are looking for a reliable router at a good price that transmits data seamlessly to many devices, this router is for you. I would say that this router along with the DD-WRT firmware is the best value for money currently.
