I love jerky. When I found out I could cook for myself, I bought this Neco Food food dehydrator, extra trays and a jerky kit including a flavored jerky gun. Well, buying a dehydrator to make beef jerky was a mistake. I followed the directions and tried several variations of the jerky. None of the results tasted good. So I started making dried fruit using this dehydrator. Again, none of the dried fruit tasted good. Strawberries, kiwi taste sour. The banana is blackened and not dry enough. I ended up removing the dehydrator. I was the dog sitting behind my son's dog. I went to the pet store and looked for dog food. I was a bit surprised at how expensive these dried chicken wings were. I remembered I have this dehydrator so I started making chicken jerky myself. Bought chicken breasts at Costco. Cleaned and cut into strips. I put them in a dehydrator and the chicken jerky came out great. I was concerned that the dried chicken might not be dry enough, so I put the dried chicken out in the sun for about a day or two. I tried the dried chicken and it was delicious even without the seasoning. My son's dog loves it. Our house cat, who is very picky, would even eat this chicken jerky. While this dehydrator disappoints when making beef jerky, it makes great chicken jerky for my pets.
