Review on INSEEGO M2000: Unleash the Power of 5G WiFi-6 with T-Mobile's Ultimate Hotspot! by Adam Taylor

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Low power consumption and low bandwidth

I had high hopes for a 5G hotspot now that T-Mobile's 5G service is available in my area. However, I was disappointed in the performance of this device. The signal strength for the 5 GHz band is insufficient. I got -67dB at 2 meters or 7 feet which means it doesn't work through walls so I couldn't place the device where I got the best 5G reception. The signal strength for the 2.4GHz band is 55dB at the same distance (lower is better). However, I cannot use this band due to the large number of people around me. The download speed measured by fast.com is only 2.2 Mbps, which is half of what my phone can do in the same spot. I could not confirm that the device is actually using the 5G network. In the manual there is a short sentence that the device can display 5G, although it uses 4G/LTE. Maybe it has something to do with poor performance. As several others have pointed out, I also kept getting the "Charging slowly, please use the charging cable that came with the device" message despite using the included changer and cable. However, I haven't used it often enough to notice battery drain when plugged in. I got a bunch of messages saying the battery is full and I need to unplug it so it doesn't want to be plugged in all the time. When I unplugged the charger, it only lasted a few hours. I didn't check if I have a 3500mah or a 5000mah battery. Considering the device is about the size of a cell phone and claims to have a large battery, I expect at least 24 hours of use before needing to recharge it. Since it doesn't do as much work as a cellphone, it really should last a couple of days on a single charge. Setup was very easy and internet access works well.

Pros
  • INSEEGO FACTORY DIRECT BULK PACKAGING
Cons
  • Not as bulky as other options
