Video Converter Nightmare

I bought a converter for PC and Mac but I had no luck with either. I installed it on my Windows 10 PC first. It seemed to work fine for the first Video8 tape, but problems soon arose. The preview window went blank and no troubleshooting was able to fix it. But it still worked even though I was blind to what was being recorded. Then the program refused to record all the videos. If I had left the recording to the end I would have shot a 2 hour video from a few seconds to a few minutes. My workaround was to only record at 15 minute intervals, which worked, but I had to stitch the recording segments together using Premiere Pro, which was very tedious and difficult given the number of tapes I had to convert. So I switched to my Macbook Pro, which the reviews suggested as the best platform for it. First, it was not installed with my OS version (Navajo) and I spent hours updating the OS to Catalina. VidBox finally got installed, but the toolbar icon just bounced up and down. After much troubleshooting, uninstalling and reinstalling VidBox, I finally got the first purchase key screen. I provided the key from the sticker on the CD but he didn't accept it because it was invalid. I couldn't find any other information about the CD or Mac in the box. Did I somehow get the PC-only version? Support tried to sell me a new Mac bundle but I declined. Instead, I gave up on this nightmare and ended up buying another product from another supplier at half the price, which works great! From a software package twice the price of the competition, I expected a much better experience.
