Review on Ubiquiti Networks Unifi UAP-AC-PRO-US 802.11ac Dual-Radio PRO Access Point - Single, White by Jeff Grindley

Revainrating 5 out of 5

These are my default hotspots, I wouldn't choose anything else.

Update: almost 2 years later and 20 thanks (thanks by the way). Everything is STILL fixed. Be sure to download the hotspot setup software every blue moon to check for firmware updates for general security. The beauty of this is that you can automatically implement rolling updates to minimize the impact on coverage. I always seem to forget where the heck the wifi settings are. Below left is your answer. I stand by my original review and will most likely never use any other consumer wireless router again. Period.************************************************ Continued reliability and performance. Let the other reviewers lay out the technical facts. If you're here, you probably already know. A rugged 802.11AC/N/G WiFi hotspot with 48V Gigabit POE+ connectivity that looks good. I'm not sure humanity can ask for more at the moment. This will save you from the plague that is consumer-grade Wi-Fi. access/configure it right out of the box. This software is NOT required for its operation, only for initial setup and management access. Currently, "UniFi Controller 5.6.29 for Windows" is the name of the configuration/management software at the time of writing this article. Now I have 4 of them installed in multiple places. The access point has 2 ports: MAIN (input) and secondary (for serial connection) to another access point. The WiFi coverage is fantastic, aesthetically most will think it's a smoke alarm and the blue light doubles as a stylish night light (can be turned off if desired). FYI I've used BV-Tech POE switches as well as a Texas POE 12-48V WiFi rackmount injector. Both work great. I think it's important to note that it's possible the average Joe consumer might have trouble getting it to work. I'm an IT professional with 20 years of experience connecting to servers, so I've had no problems. This is arguably a more professional level and the physical installation and POE requirements can push this beyond the most common consumer tools/tech options. It's not meant to sit on a table indoors. It is designed for ceiling mounting. It comes with a POE injector to place on the side of the patch panel if you don't have a POE switch, which I found nice. I would like to ask Ubiquiti to offer this model WITHOUT POE injector for less money for those who don't need it due to other POE solutions that are probably already in use. If you install multiple hotspots, you can paint the floor. Map showing where the MAC is BEFORE installation. The setup software can also capture each access point's GPS location and overlay the map drawing in the software, but I didn't get a chance to test this feature (great idea though).

Pros
  • Wireless hotspots
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors
