I have a Surface X with limited ports (ie only USB-C). I have a Surface Dock 2 that I have used for multiple USB (a/c) and HDMI connections to multiple monitors and external drives. Unfortunately, I didn't have access to the Surface Dock 2 and was stuck, so I ordered it because I didn't want to spend another $100 on top of the visitor center. I mainly use it to connect to external USB-A ports when needed (I've used the full size the whole time with no issues). I have not tried any VGA or Ethernet connections on this particular model. Based on my usage, I haven't experienced any overheating or connection issues (with other types of connections) that some other reviews have expressed.
