I have used PN532 from this and other manufacturers in several projects in the past. I've been having trouble reading some custom tags recently, so I bought a NanoVNA to measure the resonant frequency of those modules and tags. We tested 5 PN532 modules and found that each of them has a different resonant frequency in the 12.6-15MHz range. None of them were tuned to 13.56MHz. The read range of enabled tags and a custom tag set to 13.6MHz is 3-4 cm.
