Kitchen utensils and appliances could be better

Another attempt at making my classic hash browns with limited success after a few months of use, I can safely say they are quite decent. And I should point out that I bought this pair when the Slim Big was narrower than most other microplanes available. They go fantastic with cheese and other soft things, but if you're a big fan of hash browns for breakfast, they're not that good. Small things are fine with the Microplan, but big things are more suited to shredding than shredding. Due to the design of the blades (look closely and you'll see that the cutting edge doesn't cover the entire perforation. Note the small space on either side of each blade that causes drag) tend to cut into harder items like potatoes and carrots tie and catch just enough to cause trouble (there have been a few accidents), and don't produce long, julienne-like strips like your classic big one. It produces a thin sliver and a lot of chips (probably because the pass has to be withdrawn and restarted due to obstacles). While I can see how useful it can be for some recipes/ingredients like chocolate, it doesn't produce the long strips I was looking for, perfect for many of the recipes I usually make.

Pros
  • Sturdy workmanship
Cons
  • Damaged
