This is well packaged and wrapped tightly in plastic to keep everything together. While excitedly unpacking, I cut my finger pretty badly on the built-in blade. If you have kids, this isn't a device to throw around. The blade has no protective cover. This will require some assembly to connect the plastic wire to the screws as shown. It's not difficult, but the plastic wire didn't cut my soap. It went halfway through then wedged and refused to go any further so I had to pull the wire out and got a messy cut. You may be able to replace the plastic wire with a metal wire such as those used in jewelry and it may work better. The sides of this cutter were too short to use with my soap. My soap is about 2.5 inches tall, which is 0.25 inches larger than the sides of the cutter box on my shortest sticks. Because of this, I couldn't get straight cuts. I tried to measure and line up my cuts as close to the groove as possible, but often had to wiggle the knife to keep it level with the groove. The beveled edge felt too wide and kind of rubbed against my soap when I used it. Even though I cut my finger, the planer barely worked with my soap. It was too flush with the bottom of the cutting box. The silicone liner and loaf pan seem good, but I haven't used them. You may want to hand sand all of the wood to smooth some edges and prevent splinters. Treating the wood with some sort of sealer, or at least a small amount of oil, will help preserve it. The wood is untreated and can become dirty and warp over time if you clean and leave it in water.
