I (obviously) washed them before filling. The mill attachments hold plenty of water. After spoiling the sea salt the first time, I washed it again and let it dry for TWO DAYS, it was still damp. It's amazing how much water is hiding at the top. No amount of time or shaking seems to upset him. They look great and the magnetic lids are good.
