Now that I'm learning to use (and properly season and clean!) my cast iron and carbon steel frying pans, and my wok . why in the world would I want to mess up the nonstick finish? Yes . some people advise that I CAN use metal utensils on my pans (carefully!) buy why would I?If I want to flip my fried egg or my pancakes, I use a light, springy, metal spatula. Otherwise, I use WOOD utensils - lightweight, inexpensive, readily available in every conceivable size and shape, durable, attractive, recyclable, don't get hot when I leave them in contact with the pan, and safe to use on ALL of my pots and pans.
