Review on πŸŽ₯ TILTA TA-T01-B-G-2 BMPCC 4K / BMPCC 6K Cage Rig with Half Sunhood (Basic 2 Kit) – Enhance Your Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K / 6K Filming Experience by David Plunkett

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Perfect for 6K and without any modifications or extra work.

When the BMPCC 6K first launched and Tilta promised this cage would fit, many customers clearly had installation issues and needed to make modifications to prevent damage to their cameras. Even the listing on Revain included specific instructions on how to remove the Tilta badge before attaching the cage to the camera. None of this was required for my BMPCC6K - the camera just stood perfectly and screwed all the way up and down. I got the Smallrig version first (it was actually "free" with my camera) and Tilta looked better enough to justify paying for a second cage. And I was right. There is nothing wrong with the Smallrig and I have a ton of different attachments and parts that I like. But of course the Tilta is bigger, fits better and offers a wide range of thoughtful features typical of BMPCCxK cameras. I rarely use the lens hood as I find it covers the screen too much when shooting from low angles. (Maybe my knees and back are just getting old?!), but I appreciate what it is. For this reason, I leave the SSD bracket attached on the left, which works great but takes up space that could otherwise be useful, including the cold shoe slot cover. I also wish the bottom was "flatter" (lower profile) rather than incorporating the somewhat cumbersome dovetail add-on for Tilta's own QR system. I don't need a lateral QD (as in Tilta's design the camera moves left to right in a dovetail pattern) - I prefer to always have a Manfrotto compatible tripod plate as well as my shoulder mount, gimbal and obviously tripods. , all designed around this plate. I think Smallrig's design is lighter and more minimalist. But I like the cable management/protection, awesome quick release top handle, and other custom accessories (like the sun visor) more about the Tilta system.

Very good looking and functional cage for my BMPCC 6K.
