First of all I have to say that I have not tried it with a regular screwdriver. I actually bought it to magnetize bits with a 1/4" hex screwdriver. . . After moving the magnet in and out a bit, it became magnetized a bit, but the strength of the magnetic field produced was weak at best. I tested it on some 1/2" screws and although the bit caught on the screw, the screw fell out of the bit if disturbed even slightly. I can't use this method to hold the screw on the end of the bit if needed as I was hoping I'd looked for a solution, but I'm disappointed that isn't the case.
