At this point (pun intended) it seems I'm becoming a fan of circular knitting needles. I've only used circular needles for many years and find the 32 inch length to be pretty much my favorite. This is good for the magic loop method of knitting socks and also works great for sweaters, even if knit in one piece. Here is my comparison of the three main brands of lace needles: Addis, ChiaGoo and KnitPicks, Addi's blue cords are the most flexible. ChiaGoo's red cords and KnitPicks' maroon cords have about the same degree of flexibility, although KnitPicks can be relaxed by soaking in hot water. and the absolute best tips for working with intricate lace patterns. Too bad there are so many hooks on these needles. The twine hooks where the wooden tip connects to the metal piece, hooks where the replacement cable twists into the tip, hooks into small tool holes to tighten the tip to the cable, and hooks where the metal piece connects to the cable. Best tips, worst metal connectors! Very sad. Even fixed-length circulars have the same problem. The next hottest bits are ChiaGoos, slightly less hot than KnitPicks. Unfortunately, ChiaGoo's red cables, while having nice smooth connections, are the stiffest and least flexible. Addi Lace (brass ferrules) and Addi Turbo Lace (plated brass ferrules) have the most flexible, pliable cables and very smooth connections, although they are the least pointy of the three brands. Be careful when ordering Addis - if you don't specify "pointy" but only "turbo" or even "turbo rocket" you will end up with ends so blunt that they are only suitable for bulky yarns are where nothing is more difficult than a straight knit and purl stitches. KnitPicks are just a sensual pleasure to hold and grip yarn with just the right amount of texture to hold it on the needle and feel warm in the hand. Brass Addi Turbo Lace needles have a slightly less firm grip and are initially cold to the touch, while ChiaGoos are the slipperiest and coldest initially. and cooperation, smooth connections, slippery or grippy needles, and initial temperature to hold. The Addi Brass Turbo Lace Needles purchased in this order have the least sharp tips of the three, the most flexible cords, very smooth joints, second slipperiest tips and tips that are cold first. I only gave these Addis three stars because I prefer sharper tips for me, although sticking to knit picks only disables them.
