Review on Stanwood Wind Sculpture Kinetic Spinner by Douglas Norton

Love it . with one exception

This is a beautiful detail that gives character to our garden. Easy to assemble (remember to use thread lock on all connections) and set up. The precision bearings are very good and it looks like they will prove durable and keep the Helix spinning well for years to come. I drilled a hole in a tree stump I cut down a few years ago and drove a copper pipe into it. While I couldn't get it deep to the black spot, it's tight and very reliable. Not that I needed them, but I also used the supplied ground stakes (they are too short in my opinion - they should be at least 2x as long in each direction). The setup tends to sway a bit in the wind - I suppose if it were deeper in the ground it would get stiffer, but then the whole thing wouldn't stand as high and might look weird. However, I wouldn't trust him during a hurricane. Any threat of strong winds and I turn them off. And of course I'll put it away for the winter.

Pros
  • An absolute legend
Cons
  • Safety
