This is not new upholstery and will not work as new upholstery. It's like a chair cover, pretty versatile unless you have a very soft chair. I bought it for a dressing table so that cosmetics and hair products would not spoil the bright upholstered chair. Works great, especially at the top, but unless your chair has a deep gap between the back and base to tuck the cover deep into, it will just round off that corner, like mine. I also have a problem with the bottom. All excess fabric is folded and not smooth. like old socks when they pile up at the ankle. It doesn't protect against splashes as it's a very light knit, but it helps with everyday soiling. I can already say that it washes and dries easily and well. The print isn't garish, a bit muted with a softer look, which is good because it doesn't stand out. Very worthy for the price.
