My cooking reliability skyrocketed when I started taking meat temperatures instead of just relying on time. I've been reviewing instant read thermometers for 10 years and this is my sixth thermometer for my three homes. This Smart Guesser thermometer is almost as responsive as my ThermoPro (America's #1 pick). But for 1/2 the price it seems a bit flimsy. The ThermoPro has an LED display on the back where you hold the thermometer when you insert it. It might be safer for LEDs, but you have to awkwardly move your hand to read it. THIS SMART GUESSER avoids this problem by placing the LEDs on your hand - easy to read. I'm glad they are LED and not LCD (typical for this price) because in winter I roast after 4pm when it's dark and you can't read LCDs in the dark (I've bought 4 of these models before).
