Review on DIYCO Digital Tire Pressure Gauge by Paul Barnes

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Seems pretty accurate, but there are some minor issues.

First off, anyone who looks at this tire gauge and claims it's absolutely accurate has no way of knowing how accurate it is unless they test it on an extremely expensive industrial calibration tester. If you have multiple gauges and they all read about the same value, that's a good sign, but not proof of their accuracy. I say this because I remember seeing multiple gauges reading the same thing very far from normal. I've always been surprised that some reviewers think the meter is accurate because it gives stable readings when it can consistently give bad readings. Speaking of consistency, this sensor gives readings that vary by about 1 pound even when used properly. I find that acceptable, but not ideal. However, this gauge agrees within a pound or so with my dial gauge, which I BELIEVE is my most accurate tire gauge. Minor issues include an odd note in the instructions. Here is the exact quote: "1. The pressure hold function is disabled at the factory. To activate the pressure hold function, see the installation instructions for the check valve spring. This is the exact quote, including "disabled" instead of "disabled". The only difference is that the phrase "check valve spring assembly" is underlined, which I can't do here. So what the hell does that mean? It's a bit like the Chinese instructions you see so often these days, and this sensor is made in China. The gauge (almost) holds a pressure reading when you take it off the tire valve (mine drops about 1/2 to 1 pound). So what does it mean that this feature is disabled? Well, there is no manual for check valve springs. There is a drawing of the check valve parts but it appears to be permanently assembled. Please note that I am a retired engineer who has worked on pretty much every machine and system imaginable in my life and still do. Before becoming an engineer, I was a technician working on literally hundreds of different types of industrial machinery, and I still work on all of my own cars, trucks, motorcycles, and pretty much everything else. I mention this because if I can't figure out how to disassemble this thing, someone who doesn't have a hand won't know how either. But I'm not sure why anyone would even want to take it apart, so why is that confusing note in the manual? But I got curious. There is also a hint in the instructions to watch the video on the DIYCO website. But there is no video on their website. Anyway, I'm just mentioning these little things, so hopefully DIYCO will see this and make some corrections to the instructions. Poorly written instructions have become a sign that something is made in China and leave you wondering about the overall quality of the product. Customers reading that the pressure hold function is disabled from the factory (d) may be confused. Otherwise it works like any dial indicator. My other dial gauges are mechanical. I hope this digital meter is better. Only time can tell. There is a note in the manual to register the sensor on the DIYCO website to extend the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. I suggest buyers to take a screenshot to prove you registered it in case it fails after 1 year but up to 2 years.
