I bought this because of the beautiful pictures and to learn how to use color in beadwork (and because I liked the term "bead soup"). I love the color but needed a pattern to get it right. I bought multicolored beads but I can't picture the colors together; All of my work has been simple or monochrome. Nice, but not what I *wanted* to have. Beaded Colorways comes with two color wheels (one regular, one pastel) and half a dozen "wheels" that you can layer on the wheel to create different types of blends. I was impressed because six is two groups more than I've found on other bikes. He explains hues, meanings and saturation, but straight out of the box the wheel was great. Every action in this book has at least one photograph—not a drawing, but a photograph—of a person performing a step. If I had known that the book primarily uses a grid, I would not have bought it. I'm glad I didn't know! I've never been able to find basic grid instructions; they are in this book. The instructions for weaving had ten steps, which means there were ten photos and an illustration of the first three rows. Some beads think of "weaving"? The lattice resembles covers with Christmas decorations. But in this book, there are three types of "Three Bead Grids": Basic, Modified, and Wild. That was enough for starters - if there weren't rules in the middle, I couldn't screw anything up. Motivation to try. Have fun. It's a free form, repeats it many times so you can't get it "wrong".
