I've read good and mixed reviews and my past experience has taught me that noise and pops can often be remedied with proper positioning. However, after many attempts to tune these headphones for the right sound quality, they still pop and hiss. And they hurt. Pros: My previous cordless phones were infrared devices, so their RF ability to pick up sound when I'm not in line of sight of the TV/stereo was very good. The sound was impressive for them: good range, clear and warm, etc. The foam around the ears was comfortable (but not inside, see below). The low form factor of the charging station was evaluated (compared to other higher options). Cons: 1) Noise. The pops didn't stop. Totally random popping sounds when you sit completely still and watch the show. In other cases, a slight movement of my head caused other pops and hisses (not due to mute, as if the control bar moved and momentarily turned off the device, which is less common). 2) spaces. It may be related to the popping that when there is a burst of noise - say an explosion or a scream - the sound disappears entirely. All sounds stop for a moment and then resume. The compression algorithm overcompensates, so to speak, loud noises and discards them completely. 3) discomfort. Almost pain. I may have been told that I have a big mouth. but i was never told i have big ears. The foam ear pads fit snugly around your ears (although not enough to block out outside noise), but unless your ears are snug against your head, or you have a small head, your ears will likely be pressing against the inside of the headphones, where there is ZERO padding there. Okay, not zero, say 5% padding, just a very thin layer of material. My ears were mostly on hard plastic the entire time I wore them. Ouch. Even with my old on-ear headphones, my ears never hurt like they did with these. All Sony had to do was pad the ears a little thicker to support them, or deeper foam around the ear to keep the ears from touching. 4) Aesthetics. For real? Consumers can not handle the switch in this time? The headset controls activate the audio while it's on your head, and when you take it off the audio stops. Sounds cool but adds 2-3 inches to the headphone height, looks ugly and makes them heavy. I think . Battery life is so terrible that Sony had to survive as long as possible? I'll never know, I sent them back due to poor sound quality and design issues. How could Sony make such poorly designed headphones?
