They arrive with no direction. The adhesive is already attached to the locking parts, so all you have to do is peel off the exposed side and stick it to the fridge. But DO NOT do this without taking two additional steps: - Wash and dry the surface you want to stick to - THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP - Wipe the clean surface with 91% alcohol. Let dry (seconds). Then apply glue. It's amazing how much stronger hold you get from using rubbing alcohol. The adhesive on this one is a fake 3M. This is not a private label. But it still works great. You won't get a second set if you ever want to move the lock. But chances are, if you're like me, you're only losing the extra set anyway. Actually that's why I got it. Our garage freezer died and I removed the old lock but had no glue to stick it onto the new freezer. Vine offered it to me to review and I jumped at it. In the old lock I used the key. And I'm torn, which is better. The key comes with a spare key, so I kept the spare key in a safe place. And I kept the second key in the lock the whole time, just turning it to the locked position. It worked great. This requires an extra step. I can't just put the magnetic key on the lock because it stays unlocked. But it sticks to the wall of the freezer. And if your device or cabinet isn't magnetic, it comes with a small disc that you can attach a magnet to so you don't lose it. If you lose it, there is no replacement BUT all you need is a neodymium magnet (those are cheap at hardware stores). This is not to keep strangers out of your closets and supplies. Someone who wants to steal your stuff just has to tear off the adhesive, which is easy to do with a putty knife. This is to keep children away or in our case to keep the freezer door always closed. Too many times a raccoon has sneaked into our garage and opened the freezer! Or the seal failed and the weight of the door pushed it open. Or the child didn't close the freezer completely one night. I've had so many nightmares with our freezer thawing food due to such a mishap. These locks save your sanity so much! Our kids (even our 6 year old) are trained to ALWAYS lock the freezer. I used the second for our tall board game cabinet so kids are forced to ask before taking out 10 games and tossing pieces in. throughout the playroom. All in all it's great. Just use some alcohol first!
