Review on πŸ—‚οΈ HFS (R) Heavy Duty Guillotine Paper Cutter - 12'' (12 Inch Paper Cutter) by Kelly Caballes

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very impressed

The unit is solid, accurate and the packaging was fantastic. I unpacked it, put the legs back in place, twisted the fender tensioner around which the clamp moves up and down, and put the handle back in place. It was plug and play within 5 minutes. Within 5 1/2 minutes the edge of my first two books (about 75 pages each) was beautifully designed. Based on my very limited experience, I have to assume that previous reviewers' jagged cuts are due to user error unfairly laid on the hardware. With proper alignment, proper use of the clamp and guide, and cutting to specification, this cutter is truly impressive in its class. I don't need this, but others may need to calibrate their fence or other tying equipment to get a square cut. That would make sense and shouldn't come as a surprise with any device. In fact, I was surprised I didn't need it. But mine was square right out of the box. The adjustable stop is also surprisingly more precise than I expected. The grid on the bottom and stop makes the trimming precise, which is very important for a variety of bookbinding materials. Use protective film on the top and bottom of the paper stack to absorb some grease (also to be expected - all devices come with lubricated parts to protect the device from rust, metal rubbing, blade oil, etc.). Also, tightening the clamp over the stack of paper may result in a slight dent in the top sheet. That too was to be expected and no device errors given that pesky little thing called physics. Regular carbon paper worked well for me, but thicker stacks may require cardstock or thin card stock. Remember to account for this extra thickness when cutting the stack. HFS has taken the extra step of posting short helpful videos online that demonstrate operational, safety and maintenance procedures. I would wish that more companies set an example for the quality of their products. and services are similar. If I run into any issues while continuing to use my cutter I will update this review. So far I am completely satisfied with my purchase.
