My first drying experience worked great but I had to finish in the oven as the temperature in this dehydrator never exceeded 110 degrees. As a beginner I wasn't worried as I didn't have much investment in this manufacturer. I've made jerky with ground venison and the jerky worked great which I was concerned about as other reviews said it was awful. The trays were easy to clean. I thought I had a winner. The drugs they offer are very salty in the proportions they recommend you take. The book they provide says to dehydrate jerky for 4-15 hours which seems longer than what I found online but with a button the fixed temp doesn't go above 110 which is why. Anyway, on my second jerky run (about a week after my successful first) I went downstairs to check on a batch and smelled burnt, then heard the dehydrator make an odd noise as I tried to turn on the fan. . It only rotated one revolution per second. Didn't turn on after shutdown. The heating portion of the device was very hot, causing the Nesco JerkyXpress label to peel off revealing a different brand name (Open Country Athlete Country). I'm glad I checked when I did. I was only 4 hours and who knows it would have caught fire. I returned it as faulty and tried to save my $20 worth of meat in the oven.
