I bought these for some Chinese ferret cage chickens. Faster weekly cleaning costs money. My pets don't chew but like to poke through holes for fun, but they won't damage hard plastic. out of the cage, but the shavings absorb moisture and odors. For the first few minutes, the birds raised their paws like dogs in LOL boots. You quickly got used to it. Now one surface is on top of the other. The "rise" is a good height to keep the mat above the chips and get most of the litter through. What doesn't fall through the holes dries pretty quickly, leaving your feet pretty clean. I use a small dusting brush and dustpan to sweep up anything that doesn't get in after a day or so. The measurements were accurate and covered the cell range I expected. They were a little tricky to put together and I used the flat end of a ballpoint pen to connect the connectors. Once fully lowered, they withstood multiple bounces and washes. I clean my rugs outside weekly using a hose nozzle set for a quick spritz and dry with a pet-friendly bath towel. I am very satisfied with the intended performance.
