Great BBQ thermometer whether you're a techie or not

I recently bought a Temola TM40 wireless digital meat thermometer and was able to try it out yesterday. First impression... The storage box, in which the instrument and all accessories are housed, is stable and very handy. Other products that I have purchased only come with a disposable box or bag that contains but does not protect the product. This storage box contains everything including the included batteries. It's thick and durable. The probes come with holders to organize the wiring and the probe tips are quite durable as can be seen in the product images. In addition, the backlit screen has a high contrast ratio and is very easy to read. I have a (cheaper) pad that I can't read when I try to see it through my window from my house. The TM40 has a wireless receiver that I can take with me so I don't have to tip the grate or unit and look at it from the inside through a window. Thoughts when using the TM40โ€ฆ Each button has a specific function, making it easy to learn how to set up a chef with no instructions required. It toggles between sensor configuration and timer setting, and the buttons clearly indicate their functions. Depending on the type of meat, you can choose from convenient pre-programmed cooking modes from sear to sear. Some meat settings only allow certain flavor preferences (e.g. medium to deep pork). At the touch of a button, the screen is backlit and is clear and easy to read in all lighting conditions. The beep is also clearly audible when the sensor reaches the set temperature. The sturdy probes are a little thick to the touch, but this provides a good grip when inserting or removing. What impressed me the most is the range that the TM40 supports. I was able to get updated temperature readings from my backyard smoker while on the sidewalk outside my house. With no Bluetooth or Wi-Fi required, there is no need to set up or pair the devices. They just work and, as mentioned, have a long range (490 feet according to the specs). Because it uses its own wireless technology, you don't need to be a tech to use it. I also like the color coding of the sensors. With my previous multi-sensor thermometer, I had to follow a wire from the sensor to the device itself to figure out what temperature was appropriate. With the TM40 I can easily match the colors on the sensor using the color cable connection. Temperatures appear to be accurate based on end temps tested with my Temola TM20 Flip-Up Instant Thermometer. They also matched my wireless thermometer from another competitor. Overall I really enjoy using the Temola TM40 and would recommend it to users of all levels of outdoor grilling/smoking.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
