specifically bought this because it stated there was no software to install, but there is software which must be running on the machine before this will connect to the system.The USB dongle reached a temperature that made it almost too hot to touch, when plugged into my machine for only a few minutes.Also, it's not a laser pointer, its a colored dot which is quite a bit larger than a standard pointer, so that it is a distracting element instead of a tool to help point out something on a slide. The movement of the pointer can be adjusted, but all speeds were jumpy and hard to maneuver.The magnifier/spotlight were interesting features, but the other limitations of this device do not compensate.
