I ordered two of these and returned them because the smell was awful with the fan running. At first I thought it was oil residue evaporating because stainless steel often has oil residue from manufacturing. However, the smell has not gone away after more than a week of use. I actually couldn't use the fan while I was in the room, so I turned it on while we left the bedroom. You can read about fan motor capacitors failing/smelling on this series of fans, but that wasn't the case here - I checked the capacitor. I think the Chinese scrap maker uses inferior insulation coating for fan coils. I strongly advise against ordering this fan. If you smell, don't expect the smell to go away. I don't know if the fumes are toxic, but who wants to take the risk, especially knowing that Chinese manufacturers are not safety oriented.
