We have a Graco Pack N Play that we use as the main bed for our 1 year old so I felt it needed a little more padding than the Pack N Play mattress. I didn't want to buy a big box spring bed for him, I just didn't think it was necessary. At first I was surprised at how small the box it came in was. Sending is the newest. According to the instructions, it can take up to 24 hours for the mattress to fully open, but from what I can tell it took about an hour. When I took it out, my baby had already crawled on it and was lying on his back with his toys. So I think she digs it. Can be used as a mat. The case is very high quality. It's thick and has a bubbly texture; almost like a normal mattress (see picture). What I like is that the back zippers open fully. So handy for cleaning. (Have you ever tried washing couch cushions and stuffing a foam pillow? At least on my couch, I consider that my cardio for the day.) The inside of the cover is lined with a waterproof layer. A definite bonus, although I do wear a waterproof lining on top. The foam pads are also wrapped in a kind of mesh to keep them intact (Fig.). The foam is dense and resembles the memory foam in an adult mattress topper. The instructions state that a child under the age of one should not use it unsupervised. Just for your information. The travel case that comes with it is good. Simple gray bag with zip closure. But a really nice feature and a purchase incentive for me, since we are on the road quite a bit. We are a military family and at the moment we should not have a cot. I love the rounded corners and the mattress fits perfectly. There is no gap at all (see photo). I use American baby jersey sheets and they fit great. Nice and tight but not too stretchy. So far very happy with the purchase. I will update this review if anything changes. UPDATE We still use it daily. I just wanted to add that I washed the cover the first time (I used the gentle cycle to be safe) and tumble dried on a low setting. I had no problems with shrinking, snagging or tearing. The pillows came back easily. UPDATE 2. Toddler just turned 2 and this mattress is still in great condition after a year of daily use and travel. I mean, she weighs less than 30 pounds, so there isn't much pressure on her, but the pillows still look (and especially feel) the same as day one. UPDATE 3. Our daughter is two and a half years old and when we moved in we just converted her into a "big girl's bedβ. I've washed this bedspread a few times and I haven't had a single pilling (I washed cold, delicate, tumble dried on low just in case). I am shocked that this pillow still looks the same after a year and a half of daily use. The foam was intact (no dents or scratches from where she slept). Was a great investment knowing it would be comfortable and definitely has a much smaller footprint than a crib mattress! I'll probably make a quilt for it and continue to use it as a little bed for her.
