stock cooler is very bad. It can only reach 3.6GHz on a multi-core processor and 3.8GHz on a single core when the motherboard limitation is removed. With a third-party cooler, 4.2GHz is achieved without breaking security restrictions on the motherboard. My motherboard is server grade and has voltage and temperature limits by default. When gaming, you have to consider the extra heat from the GPU, so the stock cooler can limit you in modern games, which is why I bought this CPU. In terms of thermal limits, this processor is no different from the i5 8400.
