Review on Mitutoyo 103-218 Micrometer with Baked Enamel and Graduation by Rusty Smith

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Mitutoyo is undoubtedly one of the best brands for this type of instrument.

The accuracy of the product does not need to be verified. Mitutoyo is undoubtedly one of the best brands for this type of instrument. I'm restoring a German engine and its characteristics are accurate to tenths of an inch. I first attempted to calibrate my engine using a very economical kit, but immediately I had issues with several aspects of the kit, from peeling decals, scratched components, missing instructions, inaccurate calibration standards to the inability to calibrate microcontrollers. So I decided to order this brand instead of the three mics I needed. Outside of my original budget expectations, but now I can trust my measurements. The box arrived in excellent condition with the mic in a sealed plastic bag, the calibration standard came with protective plastic tips which make storage and protection from rust and damage perfect. The level of detail and precision of the case and thimble is pretty clear. The way the standard aligns with the anvil and calibration spindle gives you an extra level of confidence that your measurements are as accurate as your attention to detail. It's an expensive tool, but now I know what's in my toolbox.

Pros
  • Satin chrome finish on thimble and sleeve resists rust and reduces glare.
Cons
  • No instructions.
