Let me just say this: I never thought Powerline would be good for me because of the distance and age of the wiring in the house. I was wrong. I bought it because my home office is in the basement and my cable modem/wireless router is on the second floor. I had decent reception but nothing special and it made VOIP calls difficult and downloads were too slow - didn't get any work done. That's why I bought this powerline adapter. I wasn't even sure it would work - my house is 90 years old and I have no idea when the electrical wires were installed let alone how they went from the second floor to the basement - not exactly perfect. laboratory conditions. The first thing I did was put them together. I chose to plug them in first before plugging in any network cables, so I plugged them in in the basement. This kit comes in two parts: an "adapter" that connects to your router, and an "extension cable" that receives an Internet signal and then broadcasts it over Wi-Fi. I pressed the "Pair" button on the adapter for 1 second as instructed, but nothing happened. I noticed that the instructions say to press again if nothing happens and after the second press the light flashed. I went to the extender and pressed the pair button for 1 second - almost instantly the devices were connected. I then unplugged the adapter and installed above using the ethernet cable connected from the router to the adapter. It reconnected immediately. I decided to press the WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) button on my router while I was there, then ran back to the basement and pressed the Wi-Fi button on the extender. The extender copied the Wi-Fi settings and started broadcasting my Wi-Fi network. I've tested both wired and wireless from an extender - I get an average of 70-80Mbps and my ISP has a 100Mbps connection, so overall it's really good. I used to have 25 Mbps and the connection dropped randomly. That's a big improvement and I'm very happy with the setup. Writing this review took more time than creating it! I am very impressed with the ease of use and speed given the circumstances. If it works in my 90 year old house, it should work in yours too.
