I bought the FX50 Rigid Vise 27848 for its quick release feature. The release is a well designed split nut design that is easily operated with a small lever on the bottom right hand side of the vise. He was consistent and reliable in action. When clamping the workpiece, the outer part of the expanding nut is pulled into the cone mount, so the tighter the clamp, the tighter the nut is held together. The nut covers about half the circumference of the vise bolt. This is done to not close more than enough to properly engage the screw threads. Five stars for the nut mechanism and its high-quality workmanship. Otherwise the vise is less impressive than the slightly smaller 4-1/2" blue Ridgid F45 vise without quick disconnect that I also have and use. The fit and finish of the FX50 is of lower quality and I got my first FX50 vise back, because of the closed ends of the jaws are not properly aligned. The finish is also less precise than the smaller Ridgid vise. However, the vise is fully functional and can be described as a good, albeit expensive, light to medium duty vise.
