With patience everything will work as described. It takes a while to warm up when the batteries are in and after turning it back on before you can get a reading, but when it's ready it's very accurate. It's best to leave the batteries on when you're sick and need to take your temperature frequently. The instructions are in mouse form, so get your magnifying glass out if you need help! The device itself is very easy to use.
