My updated result: After over 60 hours break-in. The original rating is below. They definitely benefited from a thorough audition and a few updates. I switched to foam tips, added a few layers of tissue paper to dampen the highs a bit, and replaced the cable with a new one. With these updates and now over 60 hours of break-in plus a slight source EQ, the highs feel less hissy and a little more controlled. In general, they are much more pleasant to listen to. High quality recordings sound really nice. Repeated listening has now eliminated some of the hissing *twitches*. As for the middle frequencies. Initially I said it was accurate and fairly error free. It's pretty good, but it just doesn't shine on low-quality sources. The instruments are okay, but the voices suffer and sound a bit drowned out. Higher quality amplification helps smooth things out a bit, but the V-shaped sonic signature is actually counterproductive given the music industry's tendency towards harsh-sounding recordings these days. The bass can stay where it is, but the mids do NOT need to be killed. Soundstage update. I still maintain its incredible L/R width. He strains his strength seriously when the panorama sounds. However, there is basically NO front depth. In fact, on some tracks the channel separation is overdone - I can't remember the song but I remember the feeling clearly - guitar noise coming from only one ear when listening yesterday. It just doesn't feel right when compared to playing speakers in a room. It feels like the front space just isn't filled. Conclusion: Seriously, a really great buy for the money. My HE-400I (originally $500) blushes at times, and honestly I prefer listening to the ZS6 at times. The ZS6 punishes a set of Apple headphones, which is pathetic considering how many people settle for them, going so far as to shell out $20, half the price of the ZS6, to buy another pair when the first breaks. An imperfect IEM when used on mobile devices and useless if you're just listening to horrible SoundCloud recordings. You just won't feel the benefit - the sound will rather degrade. Believe me. All in all buy these things. break them Maybe buy foam tips, maybe a new cable. At least you will enjoy them. I can guarantee it.
