When I put the black cartridge in it worked for a while and then stopped printing. The error message was that the cartridge is not compatible. I replaced the Canon ink cartridge and the printer is working again. Maybe Canon have a way of detecting if you're using more than one of their cartridges so it won't be accepted, but it was a waste of money anyway so keep it the same brand as the printer. I've had similar issues with remanufactured cartridges from other printers that were leaking, so I think sticking with the same brand is better than ruining the printer or wasting money.
