I work at an incinerator and our boots are covered in ash every day. The ash dries out most boots, making them too tight, stiff, and eventually cracking. Many boots don't last 6 months. I've tried several other quality boots over the past 13 years and none have lasted half as long as this one. Almost everyone in my job only uses these boots, and I tell all new hires not to waste their time on anything else. They're also incredibly comfortable, right out of the box. No break necessary. I've never had a lace break, even with Kevlar laces. On other boots I use with Kevlar laces (because they can handle ash) the hooks break over time. These boots also have a good tread that holds up very well and doesn't catch ash or dirt like many other boots. These shoes also have support in the midsole, which means the sole doesn't press against the arch of the foot when climbing stairs. I have a wide foot, size 134e. I buy a size 13 regular width for these boots and never chafe the edges of the steel toe like many other boots I've tried. several years without significant wear.
