Bad design: home audio

This is great, but the design is terrible. You need to push two metal pins into the plastic top of the platter. Everything was fine until the right side ripped completely trying to insert the plastic top into the metal post. Why was it designed so badly? Why hasn't the top been attached to the turntable yet? I've never had a problem with anything I've ordered from Revain before. I was thrilled to receive this item and now I need a refund. I'm totally lost.
