I bought a cheap indicator for about $10 but it was a waste of time because it didn't work at all. This was more expensive, but it worked right out of the box and has been reliable since I installed it. There is some lag in the display refresh, but that wasn't an issue for me. Every time I look at him, he tells me the right gear. The maximum delay between switching and updating the display can be 2 seconds, but this is rare. I'm not sure what's causing the delay. Normally the display is updated in less than 1 second. Installation is extremely easy. It's plug and play. I had no problems and there is no programming. Since I have the option to ride with or without a gear indicator, that's what I'm going for and it's not that expensive. It's very useful, I often refer to it when I'm on horseback.
