Suck all straws. These are in more ways than one.

Plastic straws were so good when we could use them without feeling guilty. And then we have paper straws, and what's the point? And then metal straws and oh, there's a chipped tooth. And now this one, full of promises. I was excited! Return to former innocence? Alas, these came near, but did not quite understand me. First impressions out of the box: They're plastic, but they don't have exactly the same texture. Instead of the smooth malleability of the real deal, there's a bit of roughness. And the material can be hard. As soon as I started drinking, I noticed that the roughness disappeared a bit, giving way to an odd and not exactly pleasant slippery texture. The straw seems to dissolve as you use it. (Not very fast, but enough for you to notice.) This would have ended my story on a mild annoyance if it weren't for my kids who, for some reason, like to bend straws when they're drinking. It turns out that even the slightest bend in these tubes is guaranteed to create a hole, destroying the drinking process. After a few tries, my family kind of gave up. Aside from the risk of losing a tooth (or maybe an eye or two), and somehow despite their utter inability to bend, metal straws are still more fun than these fake plastic things. The search for a final solution continues here. At least they are still much better than paper.
